Myself and several other riders and skaters attended the city commission meeting that was held in Owensboro tonight at city hall. Besides the fact that 3 kids bikes got stolen while we where there I think the meeting went pretty well. We definatly made an impact on the commission and I think that they are now behind us. They made comments on how well we presented ourselves and got our voice heard without protesting, and they where excited to see so many young people getting involved. The looks on their faces when Mike asked everyone who supported the park to stand up and almost everyone that attended the meeting leaped to their feet was priceless. Though I think its safe to say we can chalk this one up as a victory, the war to get the new skatepark built is far from over. The spark has been made to start the fire now is the time to give it some gas. You have to keep in mind that these are politicians we are dealing with and they cannot be trusted. For all we know they might just be telling us what we want to hear so we will leave the issue alone. We cannot afford to hold anything back now. There are 2 more meetings with the park and recreations commitee next week and a fundraiser at Quality Bike Shop on Friday. $5 gets you into the fundraiser. There will be prizes video showings and other activities. We need as many people at these events as possible. More details on the meetings will be posted as soon as I get them. Please show your support by attending any or all of these events. We need all the help we can get.
